About Sydney History Walks

Sydney tour guide Philip - building bridges between cultures!

My name is Philip Birzulis, and I'm a Sydney tour guide. I love sharing this incredible city's sights and history with visitors from around the world!

I spend my life between two continents.

My parents migrated to Australia from Latvia after World War Two, and I was born and raised in Sydney.

I got a degree in history from Sydney University,  then like many young Aussies, I travelled to Europe to broaden my horizons - and drink beer! I went to Latvia, which had just freed itself from Soviet rule, fell in love with the country and lived there for more than 30 years.

I've worked as a guide in Latvia since 2014, as well as doing journalism and translating. I love telling a good story! And sharing a joke!

These days I return to Australia every southern hemisphere summer to give Sydney walking tours to travellers.

On my history walks, you'll meet convicts and other salty characters in The Rocks,  discover Sydney's highlights, savour exotic plants and beautiful views in the Botanical Gardens, and make waves at Manly
